Annual Golf Tournament a Success

(9-28-08)

Saturday, September 27th Family, Friends and Brothers gathered at St. Andrews Golf Links for the Suncoast Masters and Wardens Association Annual Golf Classic; to benefit the Association’s Scholarship Fund and the Masonic Home of Florida.

In all, over 40 players participated. We wish to thank all who participated and supported this event ! It was a wonderful day which supported our association’s reason for being, as outlined in our By-laws, “to foster Masonic fellowship and Brotherly Love”. No matter the scores or trophies we gathered for a good cause ! Last and by no means least, none of this could have been made possible without the participants, and the Great Creator above!

Respectfully submitted:

DUNEDIN LODGE RECOGNIZES CORP. DAVIS

(9-15-08)

L-R: W:.Ken Giesow, PM, Cpl. John Davis, Sgt. Paul Monihan, & W:.BJ Sammon

DUNEDIN, FL, USA (September 20, 2008) - As has become customary, Dunedin Lodge No. 192 once again recognized a Pinellas County Sheriff's Deputy for outstanding service to the community. The 2008 "Deputy of the Year" award was presented to Corporal John Davis at a special dinner held at the Lodge with 72 people in attendance. Making the presentation was W:.Ken Giesow, PM of Dunedin Lodge who was assisted by W:.BJ Sammon, Master of the Lodge. Also in attendance was Sgt. Paul Monihan, Cpl. Davis' supervisor.

According to Jim Coats, Sheriff of Pinellas County, Corporal Davis began his career with the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office in May of 1987. In addition to his regular duties as a patrol deputy, Corporal Davis has also been assigned as a Field Training Deputy, where he was responsible for training new deputy sheriffs. In February 2001 he was appointed to the position of Corporal where he continues to assist a sergeant with supervisory duties at the squad level.

Corporal Davis has earned a reputation with his co-workers and supervisors as someone who focuses on community concerns and who works with city government to seek solutions. In 1995 Corporal Davis was instrumental in the smooth transition of law enforcement services from the Dunedin Police Department to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office. Corporal Davis has continued to serve the citizens of Dunedin and during his career he has distinguished himself on more than one occasion as a skilled and professional law enforcement officer.

In addition, Corporal Davis is known for his ability to control and assess volatile situations. His supervisors cite an incident that occurred in March of this year as an example. On March 28, 2008, Corporal Davis was dispatched along with other deputies to investigate a report of a possible car-jacking involving two armed juveniles. Corporal Davis used an appropriate amount of resources to determine that the guns were actually toys, and that the incident involved a dispute over a debt. His experience and investigative skill brought the incident into proper perspective, thus avoiding injury to the suspects and other responding deputies.

Dunedin Lodge is proud to support our local law enforcement personnel.

Submitted by W:. Charlie Clinker

"Masonic Family Night" was held at St. Pete Lodge #139, being hosted by Eureka Chapter #5 O.E.S.,
Numerous Masons from all over the area along with their families, friends, and guests attended, about (90) ninety total were in attendance.  Short informational programs concerning who we are and what we do were presented by St. Pete Lodge #139, Eureka Chapter #5 O.E.S., and Selama Ghrotto (specifically related to the Hyperbaric Chapter activities). A great meal of "Yankee Pot Roast" and all the trimmings was prepared and served by both members of the Chapter and Lodge, (absolutely fabulous as usual)  Great conversation and fellowship was shared by all during dinner.  After dinner entertainment was presented by David Meade (Grand Organist for both the Grand Lodge and the Grand Chapter of Florida) and Chad Brock (WQYK 99.5 morning show personality).  A special birthday celebration was then presented for Brother Earl Ray (SW of St. Pete 139).

Special guests for the evening were our own DDGM Mark Fowler who represented Selama Ghrotto and his guests Jennifer and Devin who are in St. Pete so that Devin who is a "near drowning victim" can make use of the hyperbaric chambers provided by the grotto.  Devin is a wonderful little boy who has benefitted greatly from the generousity and wonderful work of the men of the grotto.  A great time was had by all and this event was a great success and a wonderful example of what the cooperation of our Masonic groups can accomplish.  Our next family night will be presented on Tuesday, September 30th with an Italian dinner at 6:30 PM.  Please plan to attend and bring as man of your family and friends as you can.  Please RSVP with the number who will be attending by September 19th.
