President Bob Matheson called the meeting to order at 8:00 p.m. R.W. Howard Knapp, PDDGM of Gulf Beach Lodge gave the invocation, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag.

 

President Bob Matheson then proceeded with the regular order of business. All members and guests were welcomed and the members of Pinellas Daylight Lodge were thanked for providing the meeting place and dinner. The kitchen help, who prepared our fine meal, were then introduced.

 

It was regularly moved, seconded and passed that the previous meeting minutes be accepted as printed and distributed.

 

Treasurer’s Report: Our ending balance from the previous meeting was $4,147.42. The current ending balance is $3,915.74 with $2,407.93 reserved for our Scholarship Fund. It was regularly moved, seconded and passed that the Treasurer’s report be accepted as read.

 

Secretary’s Report: Roll call was taken with 12 Lodges represented and 54 Brothers present: Star Lodge – 10; St. Petersburg Lodge – 4; Nitram Lodge – 2; Northside Lodge – 6; Elmer O. Smith Lodge – 6; Tarpon Lodge – 2; Pearl of the West Lodge – 0; Dunedin Lodge – 2; East Gate Lodge – 1; Clearwater Lodge – 0; Sutherland Lodge – 3; Tampa Bay Lodge – 3; Gulf Beach Lodge – 8; Pinellas Daylight Lodge – 7.

 

Old Business: The Hot Gavel is at St. Petersburg Lodge. The Traveling Gavel is at Pinellas Daylight Lodge W. Tim Bryce reported that 40 to 42 packages were sent to our troops for our GI Care Package Program. R.W. David Henderson reported that this Association will host a fish fry at the Masonic Home on Saturday, April 19, 2008 at lunch time. This is also the Masonic Home Board weekend. R.W. David Neveitt reported on the Masonic Home Employee Children’s Christmas Party. This event was well attended and it was very much appreciated. A good time was had by all who attended. A Thank You card was read by the Secretary from the Administrator and Debbie Neveitt for this Association holding this Christmas Party. R.W. Danny Robinson reported that 7 Masons attended the Bay Pines Christmas Party and our participation was also appreciated for this event. It was announced that the local Lodge listing has been added to the Masonic Widows Hotline link. Our outgoing President, W. Bob Matheson then gave his closing remarks. He thanked everyone for the opportunity to serve this Association as President and appreciated all of the support he has been given.

 

New Business: The first order of business was the Installation of the Officers for the ensuing year. Installing Officer was R.W. Carl Gilmore and Installing Chaplain was R.W. John Hickey. The following officers were installed for the ensuing year:

President Garrett, Jr. appointed the following Committees for the ensuing year: Audit Committee: R.W. Howard Knapp, W. David Brown, W. Remko Van Devort. Social Committee: Brother Shawn Rae. GI Care Package Program: W. Bob Matheson. A Certification of Appreciation and Plaque was presented to W. Bob Matheson and R.W. Rick Hoover for their past years of service to this Association. It was announced that R.W. Danny Robinson is the new Masonic Service Representative at Bay Pines VA Hospital since Red Russell has retired. A motion was regularly made and seconded that a Committee be formed to investigate changing this Associations bank account from First Home Bank to another bank which is more convenient for our new Treasurer. After discussion the motion was withdrawn and the decision will be made by the current presiding officers. It was announced that Dunedin Lodge has several wheelchairs available. If anyone needs one, contact Dunedin Lodge. W. Hardy Bryan spoke on Selama Grotto and the work they are doing with the hyperbaric chambers.

 

The Two Minute Drill was then held with various announcements from the Lodges.

 

This years SunCoast Masters and Wardens Meetings will be held at the following locations: March 19 – East Gate Lodge; May 21 – Star Lodge; July 16 – Dunedin Lodge; September 17 – Tampa Bay Lodge; November 19 – Gulf Beach Lodge.

 

Introductions: R.W. Howard Knapp, District Instructor for District 21; R.W. Ken James II, District Deputy Grand Master of District 20; and R.W. Danny Robinson, District Deputy Grand Master of District 21. R.W. Richard G. Hoover, Grand Standard Bearer was introduced.

 

The next Masters & Wardens meeting will be held East Gate Lodge with dinner beginning at 7 PM and the meeting at 8 PM.

Treasurer’s Report: R.W. David Henderson PDDGM gave a report from the audit committee, chaired by R.W. Howard Knapp PDDGM. After further inquiries of other banks, it was decided to keep our money in First Home Bank. Our ending balance from the previous meeting was $3,915.74. The current ending balance is $6,137.15 with $2,407.93 reserved for our Scholarship Fund. It was regularly moved, seconded and passed that the Treasurer’s report be accepted as read.

Sickness and Distress: President Garrett Jr. asked if any brothers will email him information of any brother in sickness or distress, he will mail them the appropriate card (sympathy, get well, etc.).

Old Business: The Hot Gavel is at Dunedin Lodge #192. The Traveling Gavel is at Pinellas Daylight Lodge #385. Upcoming events include bowling at Seminole Lanes on 3/22/08, Trap Shoot at Silver Dollar Shooter’s Club in Odessa on 4/12/08 - All shooters are encouraged to attend as this is one of our main fund raisers for our scholarship program. Cost is $55 per shooter for three rounds, contact W. Tim Bryce for reservations by April 1, 2008. A Roast of DDGMs for District’s #20 & #21 will be held at Pepin’s in St. Petersburg on 5/02/08. President Garrett thanked the audit committee for their time, effort and diligence in reviewing the books and providing the report to R.W. Henderson. R.W. Paul Stellrecht reported on the scholarship committee application deadline is April 7, 2008 with applications to be reviewed April 14-19, 2008. As of this date, 43 applications have been submitted. Report of this committee will be made at the Masters & Wardens meeting in May. President Garrett is reimplementing a procedure from a March 21, 2001 meeting where a motion was made, seconded and passed that this Association adopt a policy similar with that used by particular lodges of having the secretary receive all monies due the Association, recording the same and then pay them over to the Treasurer, taking his receipt therefore. R.W. Ron Newton PDDGM spoke on The Grand Master’s Pilgrimage Day at the Masonic Home which will take place on Saturday, April 19, 2008. Agenda will include Masonic Home tours, dedication of Grand Master’s Ladies’ Project, classic car show, chili cook-off, bluegrass music and jazz entertainment. A BBQ lunch will be provided by the Masonic Home of Florida at no charge, but donations will be accepted and appreciated. The events that day will also include a fish fry hosted by Nitram Lodge. The fish fry is also at no charge, but donations will be accepted and appreciated. Donations from the fish fry will benefit the Masonic Home residents through their treat fund and Corky’s Cupboard. For a $25.00 donation to The Masonic Home, you may rent & set up a display table at the outdoor bazaar. For Bazaar table registration or more information, please call (866) 868-6749 or (727) 822-3499. The Masonic Home Guild will be selling all the drinks this day as their fund raiser. Chapters of the Rainbow for Girls, Jobe’s Daughters, and DeMolay will be represented. All Brothers and Sisters are urged to attend and bring your neighbors as this will be a GREAT time to PROMOTE Masonry to any non-Masons. R.W. Newton is asking for all the help he can get beginning on Friday for preparation and Saturday for the event. Meet Saturday morning at 7:30 am outside the kitchen for your assignments. Contact R. W. Ron for more information @ 727-638-7463. All help will be greatly appreciated. Let’s show our Grand Master that the Lodges in the 20th & 21st Districts support our Masonic Home.

New Business: President Garrett Jr. read a letter from R.W. Ron McMillan PDDGM, secretary requesting a brief leave of absence from his duties as secretary of the Masters & Wardens Association for personal reasons. R.W. Ron appreciates the membership’s understanding and looks forward to returning to his duties of serving the Association soon. This temporary leave of absence is due to Masters & Wardens by-law 5.03.3. President Garrett then asked the officers present for their approval of appointing R.W. James Clouser acting secretary pro tem. Their approval was unanimous. New membership cards and life membership cards have been received. A discussion was held about money advanced to the DDGMs for funding the Grand Master’s visit, and repayment of said funds to the Masters & Wardens Association. R.W. Rick Hoover suggested the Masters & Wardens hold a golf tournament for the purpose of funding the Grand Master’s visit. Our Masters & Wardens annual golf tournament will be held on September 27, 2008. More information and details will be provided at the next meeting. A discussion was held regarding payment of an invoice to Metz Signs. Offers were made by some Brothers to pay Metz Signs from their own personal funds. After much discussion it was decided another check would not be issued from the Association until after the trial and the court’s decision of what restitution the accused must make to Metz Signs. This matter was tabled until the court’s decision is rendered.

The Two Minute Drill was then held with various announcements from the Lodges.

Our ending balance from this banking period was $ 6631.98. Activity this banking period:

Sickness and Distress: Cards have been sent to Brother Bill Youngblood of Tarpon Lodge, and Brother Kendall Yoder of Elmer O. Smith lodge; and a Sympathy card, with the Mite Box donation, to the Robert O’Shea Family due to the recent loss of their mother.

Shawn Rae reported that a good time was had by all who attended the bowling event at Seminole Lanes on 3/22/08 and the bowling competition was at a high level.

R:. W:. David Henderson reported approximately 60 scholarship applications were received and reviewed. With very much deliberation from many very deserving applicants Miss Brittany Nicole Lyp from Palm Harbor was chosen as the Scholarship Award Recipient. Miss Lyp will continue her education at University of South Florida. Congratulations to Miss Lyp and we wish her well as she furthers her education. The Committee was given a well deserved round of applause for their Labors and Efforts in choosing this deserving recipient.

W:. Tim Bryce reported the Trap Shoot at Silver Dollar Shooter’s Club in Odessa on 4/12/08 raised $466.38.

R:. W:. Ron Newton reported that the Grand Master was very pleased with the turn-out and the way the Pilgrimage Day event was attended and conducted. All portions of the event went well and R:. W:. Ron is already working on next years’ event which will be held in March. Lots of money was donated to the different departments of the Masonic Home by all the participating organizations. Approximately 450 people were served. Thanks to all who worked and made this event a success.

 W:. Derryl O’Neal reported that the Roast for DDGMs for District’s #20 & #21 was held at Pepin’s in St. Petersburg on 5/02/08. The event was attended by 20 Brothers, including wives. R:. W:. Danny Robinson said it was a fun event and thanked everyone for the evening and their participation.

President Bill Garrett Jr presented a Proposed Timeline for the D.D.G. M.’s to receive money from and repayment of the money to the Masters’ & Wardens’ Association for the Grand Masters’ Official Visit to the Districts. After much discussion this Proposal was referred to a committee of P.D.D.G.M.’s for adjustments of the Timeline and a report will be given at the next meeting.

A By-Law proposal to change the Meeting time was distributed. The Meeting time would be changed from 8:00P.M. to 7:30 P.M. A copy of the proposal is included with the meeting minutes. This proposal will be voted on at the next meeting.

New Business:

V.P. W:. Derryl O’Neal reported the 7th Annual Golf Tournament will be at St. Andrew’s Links in Dunedin on Sept. 27 th, and encouraged all Lodges to enter a team or teams to participate. Remember Brothers, this our MAJOR FUNDRAISER for our scholarship fund and for our Masonic Home.

Cost is $ 65.00 per person, before Sept. 1st, and $ 75.00 after Sept.1st. Please Support this worthy cause.

R:. W:. Howard Knapp reported that he is still working on the PayPal account. He also made presentations of proficiency cards to R:. W:. James Clouser & W:. Roger Webb.

W:. Mark Fowler & W:. Jim Rocha, (incoming DDGM’s), reported that the Grand Masters’ Official Visit this year will be on July 18th. They will be visiting the Lodges in their Districts with more information and details.

A flyer on Hurricane Awareness and Safety was supplied. The program featuring Bay News 9 Meteorologist Brian McClure, will be at the Masonic Home on June 18, 2008 @ 10:30 A.M. All interested parties are invited to attend.

Brother Brian announced an appearance by Roy Clark of Hee Haw fame and a Member of the Grand Ole Opry will be at Ruth Eckerd Hall on January 18, 2009. Anyone interested should contact him so he can get an approximate attendance count.

R.W. Howard Knapp, Chairman of the Committee, presented the committees’ timeline results regarding D.D.G.M.’s obtaining money and repaying money to the Masters’ & Wardens’ Association for the Grand Masters’ Official District Visit. A copy of these results were attached to the Meeting Minutes.

W Derryl O’Neal reported on the Golf Tournament. We have several teams signed-up and have received some money for hole sponsorship. We still need more teams and hole sponsors! W. Derryl will attend every Lodge with information.

President William Garrett Jr. reported on his scholarship presentation to Ms. Brittany Nicole Lyp.

R.W. Mark Fowler and R.W. Jim Rocha reported on the Grand Masters’ Visit on July 18, 2008 and extended an invitation to all to attend.

The vote on the proposed Meeting time change Passed, and proper forms have been sent to the Grand Master for his approval and signature. After which our Masters’ and Wardens’ meetings will start at 7:30 pm. The Craft will be notified before our next scheduled meeting.

President William Garrett Jr. reported on the Hurricane Preparedness presentation which was at the Masonic Home and presented by Brian McClure of the Bay News 9 weather department.

R.W. Jim Clouser, Acting Secretary, read several "Thank You" cards and letters from some Brothers, Friends, and Families for the Associations’ concern for them in their time of need or sorrow.

New Business:

R.W. Howard Knapp said the Pay Pal Account will be available for use soon. Approval was given by the Craft present to proceed and complete this as soon as possible.

A motion was made and seconded to present the Grand Master with an honorary membership to the SunCoast Masters’ and Wardens’ Association. This motion passed unanimously. The Grand Master will also be presented a donation for the Masonic Home Treat Fund of $ 500.00 from an anonymous donor.

The next Masters & Wardens meeting will be held on September 17th at Tampa Bay Lodge in Safety Harbor. Dinner at 7:00 pm and meeting at 7:30 pm.(If approval of time change is returned by the Grand Master.)
