MINUTES OF THE SUNCOAST MASTERS & WARDENS ASSOCIATION MEETING


JANUARY 20, 1999
Tampa Bay Lodge 252 F.& A.M.
Dinner 7:00 p.m. Meeting 8:00 p.m.

The meeting was called to order at 8:00 p.m. by President David Neveitt with the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. Invocation was given by Joe Conroy, Chaplain of Tampa Bay Lodge #252 F.& A.M.

President Neveitt then proceeded with the regular order of business.

All members and guests were welcomed and the Brethren of Tampa Bay Lodge were thanked for providing the meeting place and dinner. The kitchen help, who prepared our fine meal, were then introduced.

It was regularly moved, seconded an passed that the previous meetings minutes be accepted as printed and distributed.

Treasurer's report: The ending balance from the previous meeting was $1,696.76. The current balance is $3,304.96, of which $246.16 is earmarked for our Scholarship Fund. It was regularly moved, seconded and passed that the Treasurer's report be accepted as read.

Secretary's report: The Secretary pro-tem mentioned that the Secretary had mailed a complete copy of this Association's bylaws to the Grand Master for approval.

Roll call was taken with 51 Brethren present and 13 Lodges represented.

Old business: The next order of business was the installation of the 1999 officers. Installing Officer was RW Mike Beijar, Installing Chaplain was RW Keith Dean, Deputy Grand Master. The following were installed in their respective office:

WM John Drewett - President
WM Jim Clouser - President-Elect
WM Ralph Vaughan - Treasurer

Outgoing President David Neveitt thanked the Secretary Pro-Tem for filling in this evening and thanked all of the Brethren for their assistance during this past year. President Drewett then took over the meeting. The Hot Gavel is at Gulf Beach Lodge. The Traveling Gavel is at Clearwater Lodge. There was a discussion on the 1998 Bay Pines Christmas Party. It was reported that no notice was received by this body or any of its officers, therefore this Association did not participate. President Drewett announced that we will participate in the 1999 Bay Pines Christmas Party. It was announced that RW Jim Tuller was unable to continue as chair of the Masters & Wardens Fish Fry project. WM Jim Clouser was appointed as the new chair, with the following as members on the Committee: WM John Drewett, WM Larry Bowling and RW Jim Tuller. It was mentioned that it is expected to take place in August 1999.

New business: A motion was regularly made, seconded as passed that the SunCoast Masters and Wardens Association purchase a $50.00 advertisement in the Scottish Rite Fund Raiser Program. It was announced that the 1999 dues for this Association are currently due. President Drewett mentioned that RW Chuck Haynes would like to hear from the brothers. His new address is 164 Cathleen Drive, Swainsboro, GA 30401. MW Jacque Couture, Grand Master; RW Keith Dean, Deputy Grand Master; RW Jim Dickenson, Grand Marshal; and RW Vernon Clark, Junior Grand Steward were then introduced. It was announced that the Zone 6 Legislative Meeting would be held on March 19th, 1999 at 7:30 p.m. at the Scottish Rite Masonic Center in Tampa.

The next Masters & Wardens Meeting will be held on March 17th, 1999 at Gulf Beach Lodge.

RW Bill McIntosh was introduced as District Deputy Grand Master of District 20. RW John Hickey was introduced as District Deputy Grand Master of District 21. They briefly discussed that this Association's web page is currently on line and that a small rebate will be sent to the respective Lodges from the Grand Master's Official Visit.

Benediction was given by WM Jack Townsend.

Old business: The Hot Gavel is at Gulf Beach Lodge. The Traveling Gavel is at Clearwater Lodge. WM Jim Clouser reported on the SunCoast Masters & Wardens Fish Fry. It will be held at the Masonic Home on Sunday, September 19, 1999 with the proceeds to go to the Masonic Home. RW Reed Rue mentioned anyone wishing to purchase SunCoast Masters & Wardens shirts should contact him.

New business: WM Bill O'Brien resigned as the Chairman of the Scholarship Committee. President John Drewett announced that we are in need of someone to take over this position. He thanked WM Bill O'Brien for his excellent job. RW John Hickey volunteered to serve on this Committee. Everyone was reminded of the Masonic Home Parade this weekend with 33 Brethren volunteering to direct traffic and serve food. The Audit Committee, consisting of RW Mike Beijar and WM Jim Clouser reported they had examined the Treasurer's books and everything was found to be in order and accurate. WM Ralph Vaughan was congratulated on his excellent work he performed as this Association's Treasurer. A motion was regularly made, seconded and passed to accept the Audit Committee's Report as submitted. Masonic Education was then presented by Joe Engolia of Gulf Beach Lodge regarding the history of Brother George Washington.

The following introductions were made: WM Ron Lupien, Secretary of the Board of Trustees of the Masonic Home; WM John Robinson, Fraternal Administrative Endowment Committee; MW Joe Fowler, Past Grand Master. This Association's Past Presidents were then introduced; RW Carl Gilmore; RW Reed Rue; RW Ron McMillan; WM George Benham; WM David Neveitt. Past District Deputy Grand Masters were then introduced: RW Carl Gilmore; RW Reed Rue; RW Mike Beijar; RW Ron McMillan.

The next Masters & Wardens Meeting will be held on May 19th, 1999 at Clearwater Lodge.

WM Roy Trepka was introduced as District Instructor of District 21. RW Bill McIntosh was introduced as District Deputy Grand Master of District 20. RW John Hickey was introduced as District Deputy Grand Master of District 21. It was announced that the $100.00 rebate from the Grand Masters Official Visit will be contributed to this Association's Scholarship Fund.

Dinner 7:00 p.m. Meeting 8:00 p.m.

The meeting was called to order at 8:00 p.m. by President John Drewett with the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. Invocation was given by Joe Conroy, Chaplain of Tampa Bay Lodge #252 F.& A.M.

President Drewett then proceeded with the regular order of business.

All members and guests were welcomed and the Brethren of Clearwater Lodge were thanked for providing the meeting place and dinner. The kitchen help, who prepared our fine meal, were then introduced.

It was regularly moved, seconded an passed that the previous meetings minutes be accepted as printed and distributed, with the following correction: R:.W:. Mike Beijar had been listed as a Past President of this Association, which was in error.

Treasurer's report: The ending balance from the previous meeting was $2,986.29. The current balance is $3,127.8229, of which $246.16 is earmarked for our Scholarship Fund. The Treasurer also announced that our funds had been transferred to 1st Home Bank, thus avoiding the service charges that NationsBank were charging. It was regularly moved, seconded and passed that the Treasurer's report be accepted as read.

Secretary's report: The Secretary announced that this Association now has a Web Page which had been completed by Brother Tim Bryce. The address is: http://www.os2ss.com/connect/masons/suncoast.htm.

Roll call was taken with 42 Brethren present and 13 Lodges represented.

Old business: The Hot Gavel is at Tampa Bay Lodge. The Traveling Gavel is at Gulf Beach Lodge. W:.M:. Jim Clouser reported on the SunCoast Masters & Wardens Fish Fry. It will be held at the Masonic Home on Sunday, September 19, 1999 with the proceeds to go to the Masonic Home. If this event is to be successful, we will need participation from every Lodge. We are still in search of a Scholarship Committee Chairman. It was decided that no scholarship will be awarded this year. A report was given on the Masonic Home Parade. We had 51 Brothers who said they would assist with this event, only 10 to 12 showed up.

New business: President Drewett announced that our Grand Communication will be held in Orlando on May 31st to June 2nd, 1999. Michael Coningham, Chief of Volunteer Services at Bay Pines VA Hospital gave a very interesting talk on the current status of not only Bay Pines, but VA Hospitals across the Country. He said that he hoped that this Association would participate in the 1999 Bay Pines Christmas Party. M:.W:. Joe Fowler, Past Grand Master, was introduced, and held a discussion on various issues that will be brought up at the Grand Communication, including the election of the incoming Grand Master. There was a question and answer session followed.

The following introductions were made: W:. Ron Lupien, Secretary of the Board of Trustees of the Masonic Home; W:. John Robinson, Fraternal Administrative Endowment Committee; R:.W:. George Benham; W:. David Neveitt. Past District Deputy Grand Masters were then introduced: R:.W:. Carl Gilmore; R:.W:. Jim Tuller; R:.W:. Mike Beijar; R:.W:. Dick Whalen, Sr.; R:.W:. Ron McMillan, R:.W:. Ed Phero.

All three candidates for the Junior Grand Warden were introduced and each gave a brief talk on their ideas if elected to the position of JGW. Present were R:.W:. Jerry Morgan; R:.W:. Jim Durham; and R:.W:. Al Ackridge. R:.W:. Carl Gilmore announced that he would be a candidate for Junior Grand Warden in the year of 2000.

The next Masters & Wardens Meeting will be held on July 21, 1999 at Star Lodge.

R:.W:. Ed Phero was introduced as District Instructor of District 20. W:. Roy Trepka was introduced as District Instructor of District 21. R:.W:. Bill McIntosh was introduced as District Deputy Grand Master of District 20. R:.W:. John Hickey was introduced as District Deputy Grand Master of District 21. The DDGM's announced their successors: W:. George Benham, District 20 and W:. Dave Jones, District 21.

Benediction was given by Brother Joe Conroy, Chaplain of Tampa Bay Lodge No. 252 F.& A.M.

The meeting was called to order at 8:00 p.m. by President John Drewett with the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. Invocation was given by R:.W:. John Hickey, P.D.D.G.M. of Star Lodge #78 F.& A.M.

President Drewett then proceeded with the regular order of business.

All members and guests were welcomed and the Brethren of Star Lodge were thanked for providing the meeting place and dinner. The kitchen help, who prepared our fine meal, were then introduced.

It was regularly moved, seconded and passed that the previous meetings minutes be accepted as printed and distributed, with the following correction: The date of our last meeting was May 19, 1999 rather than May 5, 1999.

Treasurer's report: The ending balance from the previous meeting was $3,127.82. The current balance is $3,074.73, of which $246.16 is earmarked for our Scholarship Fund. It was regularly moved, seconded and passed that the Treasurer's report be accepted as read.

Secretary's report: Roll call was taken with 36 Brethren present and 12 Lodges represented.

Old business: The Hot Gavel is at Dunedin Lodge. The Traveling Gavel is at Gulf Beach Lodge. W:. Jim Clouser gave a report on the SunCoast Masters & Wardens Fish Fry, which will be held on Sunday, September 19, 1999 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Masonic Home. All proceeds are to benefit the Masonic Home. The price per plate was set at $7:00. Work assignments were handed out to the respective Lodges. It was stressed if this event is to be successful, all Lodges must participate.

New business: Plans are being made for the Chili Cook Off, to be chaired by Don Langworth of Star Lodge. The SunCoast Masters & Wardens Sitting Masters Degree will be held at Pearl of the West Lodge on Saturday, November 20, 1999. The Degree will begin at 2 p.m. Dinner at 5:30 p.m. for a price of $5.00 per plate. The event is open to all Master Masons and their guests. A movie will be shown in the dining room during the degree work for all non-masons. A practice for this event will be held Saturday, November 13, 1999 at the Scottish Rite Masonic Center beginning at 8 a.m. President Drewett reminded everyone that we are in hurricane season. He suggested after securing your home and family, any and all help at the Masonic Home would be greatly appreciated. R:.W:. Mike Beijar gave an interesting talk on what it means to be a mason. It was announced that our next meeting's speaker would be the Administrator of the Masonic Home.

The next Masters & Wardens Meeting will be held on September 15, 1999 at Clearwater Lodge.

George Benham was introduced as District Deputy Grand Master of District 20. R:.W:. David Jones was introduced as District Deputy Grand Master of District 21. R:.W:. Secretary's report: Roll call was taken with 30 Brethren present and 11 Lodges represented.

Old business: The Hot Gavel is at Dunedin Lodge. The Traveling Gavel is at Gulf Beach Lodge. W:. Jim Clouser gave a report on the SunCoast Masters & Wardens Fish Fry, which will be held on Sunday, September 19, 1999 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Masonic Home. All proceeds are to benefit the Masonic Home. The price per plate was changed from $7.00 to $6.00 because of a lower cost of supplies and food, than was anticipated. R:.W:. Reed Rue and W:. Larry Bowling were thanked for their participation on obtaining a lower cost on the food. W:. Bill Petrey gave a report on the Sitting Masters Degree to be held on November 20, 1999 at Pearl of the West Lodge. Response has been very low, however there may be as many as five candidates. Brother Don Langworthy reported on the Chili Cookoff to be held at Clearwater Lodge on Sunday, November 14, 1999 from 4 to 7 p.m. Letters will be sent to all Lodges with the exact details.

New business: A committee of W<EM:.< em> Jim Rocha, and R:.W:. Ron McMillan was appointed to review this Associations by-laws for the possible change of name of this Association to the Charles G. Haynes Masters & Wardens Association. They will report back at our next meeting. R:.W:. Carl Gilmore requested this Association to consider sponsoring the Junior Wardens Homecoming on August 12, 2000, should he be elected to that position. Lisa Fogia, Administrator of the Florida Masonic Home gave an interesting talk about the Masonic Home. Brother Sam Lampson gave a brief Masonic Education on the founding of origins of Masonry.

The following introductions were made: Past District Deputy Grand Masters- R:.W:. Reed Rue; R:.W:. Mike Beijar; R:.W:. Ed Phero; R:.W:. John Hickey; and R:.W:. Carl Gilmore. This Association's Past Presidents were then introduced- R:.W:. Carl Gilmore; R:.W:. George Benham.

The next Masters & Wardens Meeting will be held on November 17, 1999 at Northside Lodge. This will also be election of Officers for next year.
