Masonic Funeral for 98 year old diplomat

Gulf Beach Masonic Lodge, located at 14020 Marguerite Dr. in Madeira Beach recently performed a Masonic Funeral Service for Brother William Luther “Bill” Hunt. Brother Hunt, beloved father and grandfather, peacefully passed away June 11, 2017, age 98 at his home in South Pasadena, Florida. He was born October 6, 1918 in Washington, DC to William L. Hunt and Elizabeth Miller Hunt. Bill graduated from Catholic University Law School, Washington DC in 1939. Bill was an IRS Federal tax attorney in Washington, DC and later served under the John F. Kennedy administration as a foreign tax advisor to the State Department and the Agency for International Development in the Dominican Republic before retiring to Treasure Island Florida in 1972.

Brother Hunt became a Freemason in 1945 at National Lodge No. 12 in Washington DC and transferred his membership to Gulf Beach Lodge in 1978. Bill was a faithful and active member of the Masonic fraternity for 72 years, and for decades a dedicated member of the Gulf Beach Civitan Beach Club. He was an active golfer and longtime member of the St. Petersburg Country Club where in recent years he served as trusted paymaster. His church home was Pasadena Community Church where Masonic Services, as well as Church services, were held for him on July 31st.

Gulf Beach Masonic Lodge has been an active force on the Gulf Beaches for over 67 years. Chartered in 1950, the Lodge first met at the Church by the Sea while waiting for the Masonic Temple to be completed. The Lodge sits on property that was donated in 1950 by Julius McCrocklin, a member of the new Lodge and was entirely built from foundation up by members of the Lodge who were contractors and tradesmen. Gulf Beach Lodge is dedicated to helping improve the community at large and continues to support local projects such as Adopt-a-Highway, local youth sports team sponsorships, college scholarships, among countless others.
