When Ernest J. Freeman Jr. was Master of Gulf Beach Lodge in 1984, he had a vision to create a scholarship program that would grant deserving local High School students funds to assist in their college tuition. It was also his vision to create a program which would be self-perpetuating thereby being a source of assistance well into the future. After the passing of Brother Freeman in 1989 the Scholarship Fund was renamed in his memory and has helped support four college students each year since its inception.

Brother Albert T. MacMillan passed away in 2008 and left $100,000 to the Scholarship Fund in his, and his son’s, name. Since that time the Lodge has presented the annual Scholarship as the “Albert T. and Tupper MacMillan Memorial Scholarship” under the umbrella of the “Ernest J. Freeman Jr. Memorial Scholarship Fund”. The annual Scholarship winner receives $2,000.00 to assist in their College or University expenses.
This scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior who attends any one of these High Schools in Pinellas County, FL: Boca Ciega; Dixie Hollins; Gibbs; Lakewood; Largo; Northeast; Osceola; Pinellas Park; Seminole; or St. Petersburg.
The annual application period extends from February 1st to April 15th.
